A Good Start: The Governor's Hall

Jam Session Review for Sunday 1st July 2025

Twenty seven jammers managed to find the Governor's Hall -  industrial chic meets the factory floor. They joined a few bemused locals for a lively session: we started with the Captain and a few others on Song For My Father (technically, Horace Silver's tune is post Bop) and went rapidly and comfortably downhill from there.

For a first up effort, this ran pretty smoothly - the 27 jammers seemed pleased, the management seemed pleased, no one got a parking ticket, (that I know of), bumping in and out was a breeze - and nobody  missed the variable pitch broken handrail staircase of the Cornerstone.

The Stage: bit posh innit?

The Audience: The locals were positively enthusiastic, quite a few people reported the food as good, and the music was well received.

The Jammers: pretty much all the regulars turned up, and dragged along Nan (she didn't sing but we'll fix that), Evelyn who played some neat piano, singers John and Michelle, and Garry - all relatively new to the deal - and were joined by Charles, and Elly - they both sang well. Mr Madigan was an apology which was a pity because we were short of drummers for once, and Annie was a late starter - she didn't sing, but played drums and was the pick of the skin slappers - although Roger's brief stint was pretty damn good too..

The Good Captain cycled through 10 singers, 5 pianists, 5 saxophonists, 2 bass players, three guitarists, and violinist Steve. All good! Knackered by the late finish (7.30pm) and out into the dark, and heading for home. It had been a good day.
