About

Melbourne Jazz Jammers

Newport Jazz Festival Australia is organised by volunteer members of Melbourne Jazz Jammers, the "Not For Profit" Association which grew out of the orginal jam sessions that took place at Dizzy's around 2002.

The Jammers original aim was to hold a Jam Session every week. It is now easily the longest running Jam Session in Melbourne: click the Jammers Newsletter button on the menu for the latest Newsletter. In 2014, the Jammers were involved in setting up the Castlemaine Jazz Festival, and now also run regular gigs around Melbourne. The aims of the Melbourne Jazz Jammers are to promote jazz, create opportunities for jazz musicians, and to provide a network for musicians and lovers of jazz.

Setting up the Newport Australia Jazz Festival was a logical development. Many of the people running the Festival are performing musicians themselves. All of them are volunteers.
