The Powell and Broatch Show...

Jam session review for 1st September

Well, after 1088 jam session reviews, you slip up country for but a moment, leaving Messrs Powell and Broatch to run a debacle, and what happens... they make it look easy, and all sorts of good musos turn up and a have a good time. I was going to call the pair of them Utter Bastards, but I won't. The editor thinks this could be misconstrued as something other than a term of endearment, which, of course, I may or may not have intended in the first place, and would now, in any case, struggle to explain as I am somehat confused.

But I digress:  As if running such a good jam session wasn't enough, Powell drafts a jam session review and asks me to edit it, knowing full well that it is good to go as it is. If this happens again, the entire editorial assistance panel at Bendigo Towers, including the extra 3b reserve copyboy, is going to throw their hands in the air, take up guitar instead and play it rather too loud..

Mike's draft - unedited.,..

While the cats are away the mice do play and play.

Without our technical leaders running the show, set up was a bit and hit and miss then finally we launched into the first bracket featuring Mark on guitar admirably playing three Charlie Parker classics.

Second bracket had an issue, the PA was flat out but the piano and vocalist were very soft, ever reliable Neville found a gain knob on the back of the PA speaker that needed a tweak.

Sorry about that.

From then on we were back to normal, and a good thing too because we had new jammers arriving and the pressure was on.

A special mention, we had Ian McKechnie and his son enjoying the music, which was great as Ian was involved at the very beginning of the Melbourne Jammers with Roger at Dizzy’s.

Just when I thought we would have an early night the band played on and on but for good reason as we all had a good time and concurred that we should do it all again next week.
