The One You Missed

Jam session review for 22nd September 2024

Well.. the e-mail prompt didn't come out last week, and possibly as a consequence, only the most desperate of the jammers (all 12 of 'em)  fronted for a quiet little session. Presumably no one read the previous week's review either...

Of course, by the time that Ade Ish got to the piano and everyone else joined in, those hoping for a quiet little session would have been somewhat disappointed, and everyone else had a good time, it would seem.

Highlights? Tempting to say having the ambos wheel a patient through the room whilst the jammers were attempting to knock 3.5 seconds off the speed record for Doxy was the highlight, but for mine, Ade's take on Tears of a Fool, Rose kicking Pennies from Heaven down the line, John Calamatta dropping bars and still sounding as good as ever, Mike P listening so damn hard to what was going on he stopped, lost,  mid stream, and started again on the money, Deb insisting the piano player wasn't tired, and Anthony Bradshaw's magical take on Blame It On My Youth so good someone asked for the chart afterwards.

Amongst the things missing were the Good Captain, the drumset (unassembled), and  the drummers.  All the saxophone players were as good as John Calamatta, and all the piano players other than Ade were pretty average at best.

The small jam practically ran itself, everyone got a good go, the usual crew (led by Mike and Neville) did the packing up, and we all got home at a sensible hour, well chuffed...

Drums at The Cornerstone: Whilst this week may have been the best the drums have ever sounded, it would be a cheap shot to say so, and we should all be better than that. Or grateful...
