Snap! A Cunning Plan

Jam Session Review for 14th September 2025

A cunning plan: Dig out the full DSLR camera kit, take happy snaps of a heavingly full Gov, so the three or four people who don't know better yet, can see that coming to a jam could be fun..

That all went t*ts up and pear shaped the moment we got there - the place was more than half empty, a quiet arvo in prospect.

Which it in the end wasn't - 22 jammers then turned up for quality session, the  highlight being that both Aneta and Megan got to sing a lot - other than Friz on backing vocals, there were no other singers.  Which means that, for once, the Newport Divas were the two worst singers in the house. Or Friz was the best backing vocalist we have ever had - you choose.

Julian de Castlemaine flooted, and we have never heard him play better. Roger C put up a short sweet set on sax, Adam Fforde (bass) played impressively right out of his usual genre on Megan's I'm Going To Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter, Cardinal Calamatta had a riot on Caravan with Phil, Neville and Ash played some hot guitar, and unlike last week, we had real drummers hitting things: Martin, Tristan, Larry, and Mike on congas.

Which leaves us with a brief mention of Jeff's soloing on Lover Man Where Can You Be

The rest of you were breathtakingly spiffing. Honest.

The sun shone, the doors were wide open, the music as good as ever. The Gov was a truly pleasant place to be on a Sunday arvo.  Perhaps that was the Cunning Plan all along.
