Quiet But Disturbingly Classy

Jam Session Review for 21st September 2025

A quiet start, but in the end, 19 jammers fronted for another fine day at the Gov, watering hole of choice for the East Hawthorn gentry, and other salubrious types.  Most of the audience had come just for the jammers ( there is no accounting for taste)..

The sound was good this week - once the Good Captain had hooked up the foldback and got it all well balanced. A coupla musos caught our attention - newcomers Frank (keys) and Heather (vocals) put up a sparkling take on Caravan - most of the sparkle coming from some impressive vocal improvisation.  Roger Evans (guitar) played to his now usual high standard. Local Ivan Sultanoff borrowed Steve Martin's double bass - and they both played it well... Drummer Mike Frost put in a stylish  stint - and one might be temped to say he is turning into quite a drummer of the jazz persuasion. And Mike was equally impressive on the congas.

We were done by 5.45 - an afternoon of easy gossip, chat, relaxed music, catching up with other musos (and other auds - Rod and Bette Nash in the mix), barely a trainwreck amongst them, and off for another week in the saltmines or Centrelink, whatever floats your boat.

Hope to see the usual miscreants next week. Some of the unusual ones as well would be good...
