Nothing to Write Home About?

Jam Session Review for 7th September 2025

It should be self evident that it is incumbent on the Jammers that turn up each week to misbehave themselves in such a manner as to make a good starting point for whatever drivel graces the pages of this august organ each week...

And this week, all fifteen of them let us down. A quiet Fathers Day Sunday ensued. Mercifully, the management had asked us to finish a bit early, which we did...

Amongst the unremarkable features of the Jam Session:

1 It was actually quite enjoyable. This suggests that there is no causal relationship between chops and having a good time. Jane and Ian's bebop sax session a highlight, so it cannot be a universal rule..

2 No drummers can be a good thing: Roger Evans and Jane Little both got up for a first time, and both were good. Well, perhaps the singing and guitar playing was good too, but I am not saying which was which.

3 The Kitchen break: Paul (house chef and occasional Reggae band drummer) got up for a fun break, and played louder than the rest of us: should stifle management's concerns about the noise levels we make.

4 Jeff Harris played saxophone. Was he in a good mood or something? - normally the saxophone plays him. This was one of his best sessions and we are tempted to put the words restrained, sensitive, harmonious and Jeff in the same sentence. Only tempted, mind!

5 Rose let the side up - terrific vocal quality on Lover Man Where Can You Be. Not sure about the  blues as a saving disgrace...

So, Nothing to Write Home About, plenty to look forward to. See ya Sunday?
