Licorice Allsorts

Jam Session Review 3rd November 2024

An up and down sort of a day - spiffin' weather, so a good crowd (*) already on the Cornerstone slops by the time we arrived...

...to find that either the speakers, the cables, the mixing board, the power supply, the piano, Neville, something else, or the whole shebang collectively, had spat the proverbial and refused to go beyond producing a strange flanging sound effect. Oh well, back to Chateau Emilton in a rush to pick up another PA system, which we duly fitted and connected (props to Nev on this one) whilst the desperates (and they don't all answer to the name Col) persisted with some woeful toon or other..

Sanity and sound system restored, the Good Captain was then under the pump all arvo  - eventually 26 musos wandered in - and they all got to play! On reflection, this startling feat may have been down to having almost no-one play multiple solos, which lets everyone else have more of a go. The noise had started out appalling, (Nev's magical flanging mixing board) but settled to almost listenable...

...which was nice because we had an audience of POCKOTL (**), Rod and Bette in the house, along with a few regulars.

And where, you may ask (you probably wouldn't but I need to get to the point) did the licorice allsorts come in?

Aside from the usual bevy of backline, saxes and singers, there were some good moments from Steve (violin), Marion (recorder), Laurie (big bold bari), Ash (mouth harp), and some suitably obscure vocal contributions from the likes of Kevin, Deb Mark 2, Miss Manetta, and Rose.

It was a mixed allsorts  sort of a day. Rather busy, but fun.

Toodlepip!

(*)  Quite a few drinkers were sat outside in the sun, possibly because they preferred the noise of the traffic to the noise indoors.
