I don't like it Carruthers, it is too quiet

Review of Jazz Jam Sunday 6th 2025

Almost No One Turned up for last Sunday's Jam - or, putting it another way, the 15 musos who fronted had a pretty good time. It is possible that those regulars who didn't turn up were gigging elsewhere, or were busy rehearsing for the Newport Jazz Festival (of which, more below); or were drinking flaming sambuccas whilst dancing on the table in a state of undress in some dodgy miles away watering hole; or all three.

So... props to Mangled Michael, who didn't play but still turned up, and to the couple who weren't musos but turned up and enjoyed an afternoon of music, and to Phil (piano), Tom, Jeff, Cardinal Calamatta, the Good Captain (sax), Richard, a coupla Martins (drums), Anthony, Christine, Jane, Debra and Rose (tonsils), and Steve (violin) who represented the entire string section... can anyone remember the last time we had no bass - Ivan had gigged, Steve had gigged, Adam was gigging, and all the others couldn't, presumably, be arsed.

Carruthers' mate had a point...
