Digger to the Rescue!

Jam session review for 8th September

Around 2.00pm on Saturday, the Good Captain was told we couldn't use the Cornerstone for the Sunday jam session this week.. Gulp. By around 2.30, after some brainstorming of several ludicrous ideas, the Captain had found Digger, general factotum and committee member at the Port Melbourne Bowls Club, and obtained his enthusiastic consent for the jammers to descend upon the PMBC, en masse. Update the website, send draft emails to resident computer boffin (Martin), said boffin to send out email advising change to as many people as possible (perhaps readers in UK, South Korea, Spain, USA and Russia, Greece, Switzerland, Ireland and France was a bit of an overkill), hit the phones for a solid two hours trying to drum up enough jammers to make it worthwhile, the Good Captain got some of the gear from the Cornerstone, Martin brought his drum kit,  we used the PA/piano/cables from the Boatshed Cafe gig....

...And tried to get a spot for each of the 29 jammers who turned - all in the two and a half hours available. Keys: Costa, Philip, Lisette, meself. Saxophones: the Good Captain, Jeff H (happy birthday, Moz).  Singers: Anna Fiszman, Anna, Kevin, Ashley, Nurul, Anthony, Mausel, Rose, Jane.  Guitarists: Mike, Roger, Neville, Marc, Mike.  Drummers: Richard, Martin, the Hirsch.  Bassists: Ivan, Adam, Anton. Violinists: Huich and Steve, (the only violinist who we didn't get a spot for).

It was generally busy, crowded, chaotic and rather fun - the sound was good, and the standard of music generally disgustingly high. Even the Bowls Club members said they enjoyed it, and Digger behind the Bar seemed well pleased for a quiet arvo well disturbed.

Next session: back to normal, whatever that is... and stick to the black notes, they are cheaper...
