Blimey - where did that come from?

A review of the Jam Session 3rd September

Well, we started by prodding the Good Captain into action with Song For My Father at 10.30 in the morning. At the Boatshed Cafe - see below...

So by 3.30 in the arvo, he was well polished, and duly blew up a storm. And what a lively session it turned out to be - not huge (17 musos seems to be our favourite number) but lots of good music, and a surprising number of people who came back after being at the Palais De Plonk on Friday..

We started by looking wistfully at the outside - open air sessions are getting closer, but not just yet - and then ripped through the usual guitar opener, got to the main course, and kept at it 'til stumps at 7.00pm. Meanwhile, several of the jammers got up to play some music, but I swear we didn't miss a beat.

What? You wanted a review of the Jazz not the gossip? It would never have happened back in the day. Madge's day, of course, but that was a long time ago, Hortense didn't have a day even then, although I believe she had several evenings, all of them deeply regretted upon reflection. But I digress...

Where was I? Oh yes, now I remember, the jam session... props to Anthony who sings every time with style, this week in particular; to Simon (bass) who put in a short sweet set: good to see him back. To Hajy, whose daughter, aged three, was our youngest ever drummer; and to Tasmanian refugee Fiona, who was/is clearly an experienced singer. Her take on My Funny Valentine was memorable - stretched us a bit...and made a great end to a fun session..

The rest of you can talk among yourselves - 17 musos, but almost classy...

Wot, No Jam?

Last Sunday's jam was idyllic: nobody gossiped, everyone there let everybody else have a turn or three, we didn't play Autumn Leaves , or Summertime, all the singers sang in tune, all the tunes wer
